TOMS more than shoes! Besides the amazing espadrilles they manufacture, the company has a policy worth following and respecting. With every pair of shoes they sell, the American brand gives a brand new pair to a child in need. The name of the founder is not Tom, as you would expect, but Blake Mycoskie. After a journey through Argentine in 2006, he was impressed by the fact that many children did not afford to wear shoes in the villages. A couple of months later he was launching TOMS, a shoes business, based on the Argentinean model ‘alpargata’, and aditionally, Friends of Toms, a non-profit branch of the same company. Although they started with only 13 employees and 8 interns, TOMS sells today espadrilles in a variety of colours and materials, online and in stores such as Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, Bloomingdales or other trendy boutiques all over the world. The brand has nowadays 38 full-time employees, offers over 20 internships for students every semester, and in less than two years donated more than 60,000 pairs of espadrilles to children in need from Argentina and South Africa! The model became a symbol of casual outfit, being spotted on celebrities such as Keira Knightly or Benicio del Toro. This is indeed a worth expense!
