For those who don't know much about John Galliano, but especially for those who think he is just 'another crazy designer'; I hope the show from Paris (for the Spring/Summer 2011 collection) will make you reconsider him! A stunning presentation, addressed to all the ART lovers! Enjoy!

John 'Hitler' Galliano. Goodbye Dior!
Although it would be ridiculous to relate the name John Galliano with the word ‘fired’, Christian Dior stopped working with the designer starting today. Last week Dior announced that it had suspended Galliano following his arrest in Paris over an alleged anti-semitic assault in a bar. After many videos were surfaced on Monday, Dior decided to dismiss their eccentric chief designer. The fashion house described Galliano’s attitude as ‘odious’, citing that the company has a "zero-tolerance" policy toward anti-semitism. In a further blow to the fashion house's image, Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman, who is Jewish and the face of a Dior perfume, said she was "deeply shocked and disgusted" and wanted nothing to do with Galliano. The 50 years-old designer reinvented Dior fashion house, bringing on the runaway the most eccentric and creative outfits in the last 15 years. Although, his attitude is unacceptable, as we all know John Galliano, a spectacular comeback is expected.

Lovely Scarlett, Appetizing Moët..
Moët & Chandon revealed their new campaign featuring glamorous Scarlett Johansson. The 26 years old American actress, who has been the brand’s celebrity ambassador since March 2009, is the first public figure associated with a champagne brand. The campaign was realized by Tim Walker, the British photographer, well-known for working with Vogue Magazine for more than ten years. One of the most appreciated champagne since 1743, Moët & Chandon, seems to have found in the elegant and seductive Scarlett Johansson the perfect icon to highlight the brand’s success. The pictures were taken last fall, at the famous Trianon Hotel built by Jean Remy, Claude Moët’s nephew , located in Epernay, France. Enjoy!

The men behind the cameras..Scott Schumann vs. Yvan Rodic
About Scott Schumann (aka the Sartorialist) I was talking in my fist article published on the blog, and probably most of you already knew him, because of his famous blog. As known as Scott, and probably his only competition nowadays is Yvan Rodic (aka the Facehunter). The Swiss photographer started his blog in 2006, and quickly became highly appreciated for his creative and original pictures. Despite the professional Sartorialist, whose pictures resume strictly to the fashion style (mostly elegant), Facehunter shoots from a different perspective. Using a common digital camera (Canon G10), Rodic takes pictures of young people, with modern styles and outfits, his blog turning into a great advisor when it comes to dressing up. About the two men behind the cameras I found two interesting videos. Enjoy!

Latex, Lace and Polka Dots at Marc Jacobs's Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection
Marc Jacob’s latest collection, shown yesterday at New York Fashion Week, brings a new innovation in fashion. The designer managed (again) to combine perfectly futuristic elements (metallic materials and colours), with classic polka dots, floral lace and latex materials. The parade was stunning, with models wearing minimum make-up, fitted dresses inspired from the 40’s and accessorized with chic gloves and berets. The collection was a complete turnaround from Marc’s current collection with its ‘falling-off dresses’ as he termed them. This time, in the backstage he said: "Everything is covered up from the neck, down to the gloved hands and the legs in hose and socks. I didn't want the girls to look anything like casual or sloppy." Convince yourselves below!

Los Goya 25th vs. Typical BAFTA
After a staid or rather ‘sophisticated’ BAFTA, as the British style is, held yesterday evening in London, later on, in a warmer and friendlier ambience, took place the 25th edition of the GOYA Awards, at the Real Theatre in Madrid. This year’s edition was certainly more special, sincethe Academy president and director Álex de la Iglesia, whose ‘Balada triste de trompeta’ was nominated for 15 GOYA (including Best Film and Best Director), announced few days before, that he will resign from his job the day after the ceremony (due to some misunderstandings with the former Spanish Academy president and current minister of culture Ángeles González-Sinde, regarding the anti-piracy law). Despite the British Academy Awards, where one of the few relaxed moments was Colin Firth’s speech, after receiving the BAFTA for the best actor (of course, when the film in which you starred, is nominated for 14 BAFTA and wins 7 of them, you can be even more relaxed than Colin), the Spanish Awards were much more dynamic all night long. Starting with the amazing entrance on the scene of host and TV presenter Andreu Buenafuente, who literally dropped from the sky, to the really beautiful Álex de la Iglesia’s speech or the funny moment before the Best Actor award, hijacked by Jimmy Jump. Álex de la Iglesia’s speech was the most expected moment of the night. He talked about the beauty and the joy of working as a director, and also, in a very classy way, about the reason of his step down. Some of his words were: ‘Internet is not the future, as some of us believe, Internet is the present. We are not afraid of the Internet, because it represents the salvation of our audience, which we are already loosing. Without audience, nothing of these would make sense’. He concluded saying that he already admires the future president of the Academy, even though nobody knows him yet. Javier Bardem also had an inspired night. Even though he was invited to the BAFTA Awards, the Spanish actor preferred the ceremony in Madrid, which brought him in exchange a GOYA for Best Actor in ‘Biutiful’. The evening’s surprises in Madrid came from ‘Pa Negre’ directed by Agustí Villaronga, which swept Spain's top 9 film awards (including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress in a Leading Role), and also from ‘También la lluvia' by Iciar Bollain, starring Gael García Bernal, which besides 3 prizes, was nominated to represent Spain at the Oscars at the end of this month. About the Red Carpets of the two Awards I will talk in different post, because, despite Javier Bardem, who was dressed in a stylish Gucci black suit, matched inappropriate with a black shirt (a white one would have been perfect, see: Colin Firth or Álex de la Iglesia), most of the outfits were brilliant. Also I would like to talk more about the films, but you should rather watch them first. My favourites and the ones I recommend are: 'Biutiful', 'Balade triste de trompeta', 'También la lluvia', 'Pa Negre', 'The King's Speech', '127 Hours' si 'Black Swan' (Natalie Portman won the BAFTA for the best actress). So..while waiting for the Oscars, enjoy some good films!

Oliver Peoples..I want one of those!
The new Oliver Peoples campaign makes you want a new pair of glasses, even thought you don’t need one. Starring the real life couple, the musician Devendra Banhart and his girlfriend Rebecca Schwart, the wonderful video was directed by the acclaimed photographer and director Lisa Eisner. The charming couple presents with a desirable openness and chemistry the last (really excellent) Oliver Peoples collection, in a romantic, intimate ambience. The love affair is framed in a perfect location, a masterpiece by architect John Lautner: The Rainbow House, an authentic example of contemporary California living, built in the 60's, and the music (‘Brindo by Devendra Banhart) plays a decisive part in creating an ideal picture. The eyewear company has already gained its reputation for producing high-spirited short films, to promote their collections each season. Besides, the 2011 collection, was presented exclusively by NOWNESS, brand of the luxury group LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, digital leader in luxury storytelling. And for those who didn’t know, Oliver Peoples is an eyewear manufacture of glasses and sunglasses, established in 1986 by Larry and Dennis Lieght, In West Hollywood, California, and in 2006 became a subsidiary of Luxottica group. Enjoy!

Nom de Guerre - F/W 2010
A distinct approach in men’s fashion. Nom De Guerre (‘Names of War’) is a brand inspired from the military theme (not just recently since this theme became fashionable, but always). These pictures are from the Fall/Winter 2010 line titles 'Countdown to Violence' and speak for themselves! One of the few places where I found this brand available is: http://www.oki-ni.com/page/home/. Enjoy!
